Beining Chen
M.S. in Counseling
To the person reading this: hi, and welcome!
My name is Beining, and I am a bilingual therapist (English and Mandarin Chinese) at the Center for Relational Change. I provide therapy services for both individuals and couples, and I also serve immigrant communities and international students.
I see people not as a collection of symptoms, or as having a single cause of distress; I see them as individuals whose experiences are deeply connected to their relationships, cultural contexts, the expectations they’ve shouldered, and the stories they might have inherited about who they “should” be. Having lived in both collectivistic and individualistic cultures myself, I deeply appreciate how our backgrounds can shape us, and how complex each person’s story can be. Your truth may differ from others’, but both are valid because we are all complex in our own, beautiful ways. My role is not to decide which reality is “correct,” but to approach your experiences with genuine curiosity and respect.
Throughout our life experiences, we have internalized our own “rules” for living—like “Conflict is unsafe” or “I’m only lovable when I’m useful.” These rules and beliefs have probably been very helpful at one time but may now feel restrictive. In our work, we’ll explore where these patterns and rules come from, how they affect you, and gently examine which ones you may want to rewrite. Together, we’ll connect with your emotions, recognize your strengths and choices, and support you as you create the life you want to live.
